Cosmetic fillers are certainly less painful than regular cosmetic surgery. But the needles can still hurt. So some companies, as well as doctors, are trying to come up with ways to make the needle feel more comfortable.

Some cosmetic surgeons are adding fills such as Restylane and Juvederm with lidocaine. This is a numbing ingredient or anesthetic, so it basically numbs the skin as the needle goes in. Other doctors numb the skin first, using cold or a topical numbing medication, then use the needle. Some cosmetic filler companies are considering adding a numbing ingredient themselves. Dermal fillers are continuing to be used for the temporary treatment of fine lines and wrinkles.
